The Wind Blew Adapted Book Companion Weather

Will you be reading The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins with your students? If so, this book companion bundle of resources will have your PreK-2 readers engaged with the highly interactive adapted text used throughout all extension activities for this fun spring windy weather picture book. Adapted Books

The first adapted book includes a picture supported repetitive text sentence and a sentence frame on each page.

“The weather was windy.”

“The wind blew the (item).

Students use picture cues and inferencing skills to select a picture from the picture bank to complete each sentence frame.

Two other adapted storyboard books have one repetitive sentence with an interactive picture bank on each page:

Errorless Option:

“The wind blew the (interactive picture of item).”

The interactive picture option is attached with velcro to the end of each sentence frame. Students just move the picture on each page and attach to the storyboard as if it is “in the wind.”

Picture Bank Option:

“The wind blew the (non-interactive picture of item).”

Students read the repetitive sentence on each page and locate the corresponding picture from picture bank and attach to the storyboard. Three sets of picture cards are included to provide differentiation.

Expressive/receptive language skills and story retell skills can be targeted in various ways depending on student specific needs.

Sequencing/Retell Picture Cards

Pictures of each item blown by the wind are included with the the repetitive sentence “The wind blew the (item) up.” Optional number cards 1-12 are included to sequence each page of the book, as well as the transition cards, first, next, then, last if preferred.

Repetitive Text Sentence Builder Frames:

Picture supported sentence frames with the phrase “The wind blew the (blank box)” and a labeled picture set for each item blown into the wind can be used as a as a visual support during guided reading, as a center, a shared reading activity, or as an independent work task.

Vocabulary/Word Wall Words:

Picture and text vocabulary cards for each item that is blown by the wind throughout the book. Cards can be used in a pocket chart for reference and during shared or guided reading.
